How to Make Your Guests Feel Right at Home! (but not stay too long 😉)

It's coming you guys... the holidays are coming!

Parades, turkey, pumpkin pie, cups of hot cocoa, caroling, baking cookies, wrapping presents, and it's all just around the corner! Not only is it the most wonderful time of the year, but's it's also the busiest time of the year to travel!

With how expensive it is to travel during the holidays, having a guest bedroom where your friends and family can stay can really make a difference. When your guests feel comfortable, you feel comfortable, and everyone can have a good time!

We've got some easy tips to help you fix up your guest room so you can check it off your holiday to-do list and move on to the next item.

Tip #1: Have an intentional design

After decorating your bedroom, the living room, the bathroom, the kid's room, and so on, it totally makes sense why the design for the guest room might be a bit of an afterthought. Some guest rooms can become a hodgepodge of old blankets and leftover décor. But having an intentional design to your guest room takes it from just a spare bedroom to a cohesive part of your home.

Take some time to think about the feeling you want to share with your guests. You can make the space peaceful and calm, or fun and happy, or anything else you'd like. Pick a theme and create the design!

Tip #2: Have décor pillows (but not too many)

Pillows are not only comfortable and add to the overall style of a room, they're essential for a good night's sleep! Make sure you have comfortable sleeping pillows behind those cute décor pillows. And speaking of décor pillows, use them to enhance your design and avoid using so many that your guest can't see their bed. We recommend:

  • 2-3 decor pillows for a twin bed
  • 3-5 decor pillows for a full or queen bed
  • 5-7 decor pillows for a king bed

Tip #3: Have space near the nightstands

Now that your guest room looks the part, let's make sure it's functional as well! Your guest room may not be large so it's important to utilize space and avoid clutter. Keep the room a little more minimal than you normally would so guests can fill the space with their luggage and any personal items. Make sure to leave space on the nightstands for cell phones to charge, especially since most people use theirs as alarm clocks.

There you go, check this off your to-do list! All you need to do for your guest room is have an intentional design, have cute décor pillows, and have space for your guests to settle in.

So don't be afraid to call up your family and friends and tell them to come visit this year! You've got a guest room ready for them!
